Love Without Butterflies

As I sat down to create one place for all of my previous writing to live, I came across this little piece I'd written and wanted to start on this note. And so, in honor of my first educational blog (written in 2016):

Indeed my life is ordinary and it is beautiful! I have so much love within and surrounding me, but the butterflies that come with the Greek's passionate eros flew away long ago. It's this other kind of Greek love that I prefer: this agape, philia, and storge. It's the philautia, the xenia. In English, it's friendship, self-love, hospitality, caregiving, familial and brotherly love. It's family,  it's homemaking. It's the kind that lifts, sustains and encourages. It's the kind that comes with time, with patience, with understanding.

and when the butterflies have flown away...

the flowers bloom

nurture another generation

vibrant

strong

beautiful

they live

and simply by doing so,

they bring light, joy, and happiness

to those who need it most

they thrive

and by sharing,

more flowers will brightly bloom

tomorrow.
